Microsoft has been making improvements to the widget panel for some time now. For example, it has partnered with Facebook and Spotify to allow third-party developers to create widgets. Now, it is reported that they are working on a widget support reminiscent of the Desktop Gadgets in Windows 7.
A new update coming to Windows 11 will move widgets to the desktop. Users will be allowed to pin window elements directly to the home screen, enabling a next-level widget experience.
Since the first release of Windows 11’s widget library, it has expanded considerably. There are over 13 widgets that users can try, including MSN, Phone Link, Xbox, and Photos. These elements aim to increase productivity by providing quick access.
The new move will bring the Windows Desktop Gadgets feature from Windows 7 to Windows 11. Microsoft will allow users to place these elements anywhere on the desktop, providing more flexibility.
It is unclear when this feature will be made available to users. However, it is known that Microsoft will hold a special session on Windows widgets at Build 2023, which will take place on May 23. Nevertheless, it should be noted that this feature has not been finalized yet.
